A Word From Our Pastor

While our fall activities are launching over the weeks ahead (see this newsletter for information about those wonderful ministries), there are two big church-wide events that I hope you will participate.

Saturday, September 11, we are having our 2nd Annual Stewardship Banquet.  This event is a night of good food, fellowship, and entertainment.  We hope our kids and youth will commit to performing in our talent show.  We will be collecting money to cover the costs of the catered meal and to add to our playground renovation fund.  RMBC supports and loves children.  A church that makes children’s ministries a priority is a church that has a bright future.  Our children’s ministries are busy and growing and we need age appropriate, updated, and safe playground equipment for our kids.  So come and be generous and enjoy a great evening.

Sunday, September 19, is our third annual “We Love Our New Members Lunch.”  Each year we have a church-wide potluck meal to celebrate those who have come into the church.  We have seventeen new members who have come into our church since our last meal. We will all be wearing name badges, and the new members will be wearing their own badges, so we can again say welcome to them.  This meal is in their honor and we hope each new member and family will be here ready to celebrate with us.  This is a time to say thanks to God for the blessings from the previous year.  God is good!  We should be thankful.

And so mark these events on your calendar!  You will not want to miss them.

See you Sunday,
Derik

Beliefs 101

September 19-November 21 at 5:45 pm in the Chapel

What do you believe about God?
How do we understand the Trinity?
How did Jesus’ death save us from our sins?
How do folks who have not been to seminary understand Christian theology?

Join us each week as we talk about the core teachings of the Christian faith.  Each week that the children meet during C.S.I. we will meet in the chapel for this important study.  In January 2011 we will study “Beliefs that Divide” and look at how some interpretations of the Bible, ethics, and life have divided Christian churches.  These two studies should help you build a stronger understanding of what you believe and why.

Our 2nd Annual Stewardship Banquet

Our 2nd Annual Stewardship Banquet
Saturday, September 11, 6:30 pm

Join us for a catered barbecue dinner and some fellowship and entertainment!

This is a family night and we want you to bring the kids to enjoy a night of fun!  In addition to delicious food, we will have a “Talent Show,” presented by our RMBC kids and youth. Please encourage your child to “dream up” something we might all enjoy.

We will be raising money for our playground improvement fund. It would be great to have our playground remodeled/expanded/improved, so that we can do more with our kid’s ministries.
We have already had a generous gift given and hope that you will come and be ready to help give to this dream.

The money we collect will pay for the catered meal and then go to the playground fund.
Pray and give to our children’s ministry!

Notes From Susie

THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the Union Music Service!!!  It  was glorious!  The choir and accompanists worked so hard on the music; the sound team worked to get the piano moved and make sure we sounded good; the pastor found the meaningful scripture to fit the songs; the ushers collected over $1100 in offering for Helping Hands; the kitchen team of Beth and Ammie Rucker organized the kitchen for snack supper; and people came to participate in the service.  I admit it’s a lot of work, but the   rewards are great!  Thanks again!

COMING SOON!

New night and time!

News and Events

The Youth Rally was great.  We had around 100 youth and their leaders here at RMBC for a day of fun, fellowship, food, and worship.  We began the day with water fun, including a 100-foot slip and slide.  We raised money for missions with a splash tank that the youth designed and built themselves.  (It was sitting out Sunday for all to see their workmanship.  We are very proud of them.)  Then it was time for dinner and more fellowship.  Afterwards was an amazing worship service.  One Word provided the praise music and Madison Heights Baptist Youth shared part of their musical that they presented during their summer mission trip.  David led the message about how we can unscramble our lives using the acronym SPLAT:

   S:  stop
   P:  pray
   L:  let go
A:  align your will to God’s
   T:  talk and share

When your life seems to be out of control, follow these steps to put it back together.  We all have    problems, some small and some severe.  And everyone, at one time or another, will feel that life, or a situation, is hopeless.  When this happens, remember SPLAT and remember that your Father in Heaven loves you and has plans for your life. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  Jeremiah 29:11

In His Love,
David and Sharon Childress

We would like to welcome the 6th and 7th graders who are participating in the youth for the first time.  We meet on Sunday evenings from 5:30-7:00 pm, and on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:30 pm. The Team Praise has moved from Sunday evenings to Wednesdays at 6:30 pm in the sanctuary.

6th graders are encouraged to continue in CSI and their Wed. children’s ministries, but will be included in the second hour on Wed evenings and in all youth special functions.

We are excited about the upcoming school year and what the Lord has in store for the RMBC youth.  Keeping with the theme of unscrambling our lives from the youth rally, we will begin a new video Bible series on September 8, dealing with conflicts within our relationships.  We hope that you can join us, as we explore God’s word.

Welcome Table Volunteers Needed

Welcome Table!

We are changing how we do our welcome table and need your help!  We only need 2 people each Sunday to work the welcome table.  The volunteers will serve on a rotating basis.  If we have nine teams, you will serve every nine weeks.  If we have ten, you serve every ten.  So the more teams we get, the less you will serve.   Here are the duties:

1.   Welcome team serves ONLY after morning worship.  Slip out during the  invitation hymn and stand by the table in the front of the church near where the pastor shakes hands.

2.   Welcome team should offer materials for visitors about our church, be friendly, talk, and answer any questions.

3.   We hope to have some gifts soon (coffee mugs, pens, etc) that we can give to visitors that will help them remember us.

Why do we have this ministry?  When folks visit, it is important that they get information about our church and have conversations with friendly folks!  The pastor will begin to invite folks to stop by the welcome table.  Some weeks no one will stop and some weeks folks will.

A sign up sheet is posted in the Connector Building foyer. Please sign up and help us out!
